2018 Chrysler Pacifica No-Start — Fixed On Site in Las Vegas

Forty-three fault codes across 18 modules — and not one bad computer. This Pacifica's no-start came down to voltage, and it left running the same visit.

This 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring Plus (3.6L) would not start for its owner in Las Vegas. A no-start with a dashboard full of warnings usually gets quoted as a computer problem — sometimes several computers. Before anyone replaced a single part, AutoCode ran a full-system scan and tested the basics first.

The scan told a dramatic story: 43 fault codes spread across 18 modules, including lost-communication codes such as U0100. That pattern — everything failing at once — is exactly what low system voltage looks like.

What We Found

Pacifica models with stop-start use a dual-battery ESS system: a main battery plus a smaller auxiliary battery working together. On this van, that battery system was dragging the vehicle's voltage down, and modules all over the van were dropping offline and logging communication faults — ghost codes caused by weak power, not failed modules.

Instead of condemning computers, AutoCode verified the fundamentals first: battery voltage, power feeds, grounds and module communication. With the voltage problem identified, the '43-code failure' collapsed into one electrical cause.

  • 43 fault codes across 18 modules on the initial scan
  • Lost-communication codes (U0100 type) — a classic low-voltage pattern
  • Dual-battery ESS system (main + auxiliary) pulling system voltage down
  • Power, grounds and communication verified before any part was blamed

The Result

Once the voltage problem was corrected, module communication came back and the Pacifica started and ran — on site, during the same visit, with no modules replaced. The owner was satisfied with the honest diagnosis: the van did not need computers, it needed its power problem found.

  • Started and ran on site, same visit
  • No computers or modules replaced
  • Cause proven with testing, not guessed from the code list

The Lesson

Fault codes tell you where to look — they do not tell you what to replace. When many modules complain at the same time, test power and grounds first: a large share of 'dead computers' are really power and ground problems wearing a scary disguise.
